Both had previous careers in the military and corporate sectors before venturing into the hospitality industry. “We saw an opportunity to showcase my entrepreneurship skills in an entirely new field, an area where I had no prior experience,” says Terry.
Their journey was not without its trials. In 2021, the resort was devastated by the storm Ullyses, which threatened to extinguish their newly kindled dream. Yet, true to their indomitable spirit, the McLennans took the adversity in stride.
Terry fondly recollects, “Just like the storm, setbacks are temporary. When they pass, they give way to a stronger, more beautiful version of what was there before. The storm damaged our resort, yes, but it also paved the way for something more magnificent.”
Drawing upon this philosophy, the resort was reconstructed and improved, now boasting a stunning new bar among its many attractions. The experience reaffirmed Terry’s belief in the importance of having a single, laser-focused plan. “You cannot have a Plan B -C in case you fail. If you fail, then you reconsider and start the same process again, and again until you finally achieve success,” Terry shares.
Yet, this success story would not have been possible without the power of mentorship and motivation. Terry’s transition from the military to retail sales, and finally to owning a beach resort, hinged on the guidance of a mentor who saw potential in him. “After the military, I was given an opportunity in retail sales. My mentor’s faith in my abilities inspired me to set a goal of achieving a franchise within five years,” Terry shares.
Apolinario Velasquez Jr, the Resort Manager, shares a similar perspective. “We believe that no storm lasts forever, and there’s always a brighter dawn waiting. Our resort stands as a symbol of that belief. We’ve learned from the storm and emerged stronger and more resilient.”
